HOW TO FIX CROSSED LOOPS IN A LEGEND

Share

A couple of times this year we have had customers phone in and tell us that when they turn off their fertilizer, that one or more of the towers on the seed say blocked, and the corresponding towers in the fertilizer loop stay green.R eading this blog will give you a better understanding of how to troubleshoot this problem on the Legend system.

Below is an example of what this problem would look like on the Android version.

The easiest way to troubleshoot this problem is to take a screen shot of this problem when you see it. This screen tells you exactly where the sensor loop cables have crossed from their respective loops into the other loop. All you would have to do in this example would be to go to tower 3 and unplug the incoming and outgoing sensor loop cables and switch them from the fertilizer loop to the seed loop and vice versa. If that is not possible as you or your customer has finished seeding and can’t remember where the problem was located you will need to follow this troubleshooting procedure:

1.       First step is to turn the sensitivity of Loop 1 to 0. This turns off the loop power, so nothing that happens on loop 1 will be visible on the tablet. You only need to trouble shoot one loop so the less data on the screen the better.

2.       Pick a side of the drill, it doesn’t matter if you start on the side that is sensor 1 or the side that is the last sensor in the loop. For this example we will start on the side of the drill that is sensor 1.

3.       Unplug the incoming and outgoing sensor loop cables at tower 1, make sure that the tablet displays an orange icon on the first sensor and last sensor of the tower that you are working on. As displayed below:

4.       If the tablet displays correctly work your way along the drill repeating step 3 on the remaining towers on the drill. When you unplug the incoming and outgoing sensor loop cables on a particular tower (in this example tower 3) you will notice that the tablet will not display the orange icons on the first and last sensor of that tower. This means that you have found where the loops have crossed.

5.       Unplug the incoming and outgoing sensor loop cables of the same tower in Loop 1. (Remember we are working on loop 2) Swap the sensor loop cables from the tower on Loop 1 with the sensor loop cables from the corresponding tower on loop 2.

6.       Unplug the incoming and outgoing sensor loop cables on the same tower in loop 2 again to make sure the tablet displays the orange icons on the first and last sensor of that tower.

7.       Continue working your way along the drill unplugging the incoming and outgoing sensor loop cables of the remaining towers on loop 2. If the tablet displays the errors correctly you have successfully found and fixed the problem!
